Paper Route

So last night I went to see Jack's Mannequin and Phantom Planet, both of whom I adore, at a local venue.  I wasn't all excited for the other two bands who I was not too familiar with. One was Treaty of Paris (who I will post about later) and the other was a band that blew my mind: Paper Route.

When this band first hit the stage, the first thing I said to my friends were, "The look kinda dorky, almost Beckish or Franz Ferdinand." They all had plaid button up shirts on, except one who had a black button up shirt, and he was lugging out a synthesizer. The second thing I noticed was that there were two keyboards, jingle bells on a mic stand, and an accordion sitting next to an amp. But then once they began to play, my friends and I were blown away. The band, consisting of JT Daly, Chad Howat, Andy Smith, and Gavin McDonald, used a combination of synthesizers, guitars, bass, drums, harmonica, accordian, bells, and even harmonica with gorgeous vocals and great lyrics to put together a mix of classic Americana and electronica.  After the show I bought their EP Are We All Forgotten and they were gracious enough to sign it for me. The EP rocks, I highly recommend it.

Imogen Heap

So now we're diverting away from the rock a little bit and getting into some techno singing fabulousness.  I present, the lovely Imogen Heap.

Okay, if you haven't caught on, I'm mostly into rock music.  But I can make an exception for really good artists. For example, Miss Heap.  Her eccentric songs and beautiful vocals make her an artist who pretty much anybody can enjoy.  Many of her songs have been used in films such as "Garden State", "The Holiday", "The Chronicles of Narnia", and on T.V. shows such as "The O.C.", and "So You Think You Can Dance?".  She was previously in a techno duo known as Frou Frou and released an album called Details before splitting.  Now, on her solo career, she has released Speak For Yourself and i Megaphone, which is an anagram of her name.  I suggest listening to her songs Let Go, Oh Me Oh My, Hide and Seek, and The Moment I Said It.

Bloc Party

In my opinion, one of the greatest British rock bands to hit the world since the Beatles. Welcome to the Bloc Party.

I'd been listening to this band for awhile now, but I hadn't really listened a lot until I decided to do this post on them.  In order to come up with some good descriptions of their music, I got a bunch of songs and listened to them constantly. Needless to say I'm at a loss for words to describe this band.  Bloc Party hails from London and comprises of Kele Okereke (vocals and guitar), Russel Lissack (lead guitar), Gordon Moakes (bass), and Matt Tong (drums).  Kele's vocals are beautiful and the lyrics almost always have a deeper meaning, while the guitars feature jumpy chords and fast picking.  Matt Tong is by far one of the greatest drummers I've ever heard, his playing is always quick and energizing. I'm trying to teach myself "Like Eating Glass" on drums but it's a little difficult. Check out their albums Silent Alarm and A Weekend in the City.

I'm going to go back to listening to Bloc Party. Enjoy.

Pierce the Veil

I was going to start with some abstract artist, but since I primarily like rock music, I think I'll start with that, ergo:
Pierce the Veil

Not only are they a great band whose music gets your heart pumping and their lyrics have your emo side coming out of the closet, this post-hardcore band happens to contain very attractive band members. The California based band consists of Vic Fuentes on guitar and vocals along with his brother Mike on drums, Jaime Preciado on bass, and Tony Perry on guitar.  They will be on the Vans Warped Tour this Summer (unfortunately I will be out of town when they hit my city), and have toured with bands such as Scary Kids Scaring Kids, Mayday Parade, and From First to Last.

Check out their album, A Flair for the Dramatic.

PS On their Myspace they have a cover of Michael Jackson's Beat It. Check it out!

This Blog

Since i've come to feel that as my music tastes are somewhat more than adequate, I decided I should share what I'm listening to. I know that at first nobody's going to read this, but maybe when it's discovered people will say, "Golly gee, she was into some sweet shit."

The name Say No More comes from my belief that sometimes people just need to shut up and listen to what other people, and music, are saying.  I love music, I'm teaching myself to play drums.

I mostly listen to rock, specifically emo and indie, but you will often find random songwriters on my itunes.  Along with sharing music I might rant and rave about something random, like my new fave drink or how much gas costs.

I hope thats a good summary of what this is about.

PS If you have a band I should check out/post on please tell me!
